At ICAN, we provide detailed autism assessment from toddlerhood to adulthood. We provide home, school, and center-based ABA therapy.
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) consists of a series of structured and semi-structured tasks that involve social interaction between the examiner and the subject. Dr. Torabian herself is trained in using ADOS. She observes and identifies segments of the client’s behavior and assigns these to predetermined observational categories. It usually takes 45-50 minutes to complete ADOS.
Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) is a structured interview conducted with the parents of the referred individual and covers the subjects full developmental history. It usually takes 45-60 minutes to complete ADI-R.
Today, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for autism. Studies have demonstrated that many children with autism experience significant improvements in learning, reasoning, communication and adaptability when they participate in high-quality ABA programs. Some preschoolers who participate in early intensive ABA for two or more years acquire sufficient skills to participate in regular classrooms with little or no additional support. Other children learn many important skills, but still need additional educational support to succeed in a classroom. Effective ABA intervention for autism is not a “one size fits all” approach. At ICAN, our skilled therapist work closely with families and children to customize the intervention to each learner’s skills, needs, interests, preferences and family situation.
We have social skills therapy sessions for high-functioning children and adolescents with autism. These sessions are run every day from 3:00PM to 7:00PM as well as on Saturdays from 9:30AM to 2:30PM. The sessions are highly structured and involve social opportunities, conversations, turn-taking, waiting, sharing, pretend and imaginative plays, and many other skills necessary for typical development of individuals with neurodivergent backgrounds.
