ICAN Careers

Training Director, Dro Smati

My interest in behaviorism led me to take a course with Dr. Torabian, who on the first day of class announced she had just opened her own practice providing behavioral therapy and invited anyone interested to apply. I was honored to be the first person ever hired at ICAN.
The passion behind Dr. Torabian’s mission and the supportive culture at ICAN inspired me to dedicate myself to serving the autism community. I began my journey as a Behavioral Interventionist, then progressed to RBT, Program Supervisor, BCBA, and now proudly serve as the Director of the Training Department. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of training over 500 therapists.

To live is to learn, and to learn is to struggle. Without struggle, there is no learning; without learning, there is no growth; and without growth, are we truly ever living?

ICAN is a place of learning and professional growth. A place where all leadership positions started off as an entry-level Behavior Interventionist.

What is ABA?
A scientific approach to understanding and improving human behavior. It focuses on how learning happens and how our environment influences our actions. ABA therapists use this knowledge to help people of all ages increase useful skills and decrease behaviors that may be challenging or harmful. The goal is to create positive, lasting changes that help individuals live more independent and fulfilling lives.

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
A professional who applies the science of behaviorism to help individuals of all ages and their supporting families. They use a structured ABA approach to assess behaviors and create personalized plans to increase positive skills and decrease challenging ones. They supervise a team of therapists under them and work closely with families to ensure the treatment plan is effective.

Program Supervisor (Mid Level Supervisor)
A professional who oversees and manages the implementation of therapy programs under the direction of the BCBA. They are responsible for creating intensive and personalized treatment plans based on an individual’s needs and goals. They also assist in training and supervision to the direct care staff, ensuring that the treatment plans are implemented correctly. A Program Supervisor at ICAN is actively pursuing a BCBA Certification and is in the process of earning their license and credentials.

Behavior Interventionist (Entry-Level)
A professional who works directly with an individual in need of ABA services. They implement the behavior plan under the direction of their supervising BCBA and/or Program Supervisor. They develop a therapist-client relationship with the individual and focuses on their needs in a longitudinal capacity. This is a very involved and hands-on role which can directly attribute to clinical progress and breakthroughs for individuals receiving ABA services.

Program Coordinator (Volunteer)
An individual with a passion for special education who is responsible for assisting with and designing group activities. These individuals will get direct experience working with children diagnosed with ASD and give meaningful learning lessons and opportunities. The Program Coordinator is critical for our in-clinic model and delivering fun-filled activities for children seven days a week.
